■Created in-store tools using “recycled paper made of used tea leaves”!
The “Used Tea Leaves Recycling System[綾金1] ” has upcycled used tea leaves into a variety of daily necessities and industrial products, including paper products such as business cards and envelopes, ballpoint pens, and fans, and has found new uses for this effective resource.
As the production volume of “Oi Ocha” brand increased, so did the amount of used tea leaves generated, and we began researching the way to recycle used tea leaves, believing that the various functional properties contained in used tea leaves could be utilized in ways other than as animal feed or compost. In 2001, we established the “Used Tea Leaves Recycling System,” a proprietary technology that allows tea leaves to be stored (transported) at room temperature while still containing water and used as an alternative raw material for industrial products. Now, as part of the social contribution project “Green Tea for Good,” which Otani supports, we will contribute to the recycling of resources by developing in-store tools using “recycled paper made of used tea leaves” through our Used Tea Leaves Recycling System.
